I found Louise easy to talk to, the conversation flowed naturally. She would ask questions, and we would explore different areas. It was interesting as I had never taken the time to assess how committed and dedicated I had been to the company for 32 years. But also realised often this commitment and dedication were taken advantage of. Louise asked one simple question which changed my life ‘What is the worst that could happen if you lost your job?’. Initial thoughts were on losing; income, sense of identity, and seniority in the profession. But as we talked I realised ‘money and steady job’ was based on my upbringing, I wasn't bound by it. Then realised, I could spend more time with family, get involved with the community more, and actually do things I would be interested in doing. The more we talked about possibilities, the more excited I got about the possibilities. When I started talking to others that I was thinking about leaving, I had 3 work offers present themselves. I ended up volunteering for 18 months helping build a community centre, something I would not have imagined earlier. So not only did I benefit from talking with Louise, so did my young family, and my community.

My first contact with Louise was an emergency phone call. I had been dealing with EQC for 7 years, 3 failed repairs, they had just broken the promise of a rebuild, now saying we had to go through a 4th repair. I felt I had failed my family, as I was unable to provide a safe warm home. Each time EQC forced us to move back, the house was in worst condition than we left. I had been brought up to be strong and capable, I had bottled everything up over the 7 years, and that morning I just broke. Louise calmly listened, as I rumbled on for an hour about all the mistakes EQC had made and what they had subjected us to. Louise managed to calm me down and gave me a few simple things to think about, and quickly set up a face-to-face.
Meeting Louise, her calming nature allowed me to open up about what I had been going through. Through the conversations I learnt a lot more about myself, why I hold certain values, where my strengths come from, how these strengths can also be weaknesses, and how to use those strengths when needed, it was a very interesting experience. Louise gave me various exercises and resources to look over. Ultimately Louise gave me the tools I needed to move forward not blaming myself for things outside my control. Using these tools and things I learnt about myself, I managed to go back into battle with EQC and won.
